Chapter Excellence Award honoring Randy Lundberg

    PURPOSE

    This award recognizes Association Chapters for outstanding achievement and excellence in overall chapter programming and operations.  This award is named for NHRMA Awards and Recognition Director Randy Lundberg, a member of the Rogue Valley Chapter, who was designing an award to recognize NHRMA Chapter Achievements at the time of his death in 1994.

    ELIGIBILITY

    The eligible chapter will have earned a SHAPE Award from the Society for Human Resource Management in the year prior to the application for this award.

    CRITERIA FOR NOMINATION

    Chapter Presidents and State Council Directors (with the support of their board members) may nominate a chapter(s) from the state (multiple chapters can be nominated from the same state).  Only one chapter a year can win, but a chapter can win multiple years.  Accomplishments qualifying a chapter for consideration for the Randy Lundberg Northern Lights Award may include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Creative programs designed to meet the professional development needs of chapter members
    • Innovative programs designed to promote certification
    • Programs to enhance workplace literacy and meet the needs of employers and job seekers
    • Programs to improve community relations, education, diversity, work and family issues
    • Programs designed to facilitate the advancement of entry-level practitioners into the HR profession
    APPLICATION PROCEDURE

    Nominations for this award should include the following:

    • Chapter Information as requested on the nomination form, included but not limited to
      • Name
      • Chapter President’s Name
      • Chapter President’s Phone Number and E-Mail Address
      • Prior Year Merit Award Status
      • Chapter Size
      • Name of Person Submitting Application
      • Phone Number and E-Mail Address of Person Submitting Application
      • Project or Achievement Title
    • Briefly (approximately one page) describe the project or achievement and how it is consistent with the mission of the chapter and its members.  Where appropriate, list chapter members who were involved in developing and producing the project or achievement.
      • In lieu of a formal summary, chapters may submit their prior years’ Excel award they sent to SHRM. For example, To be considered for the 2024 NHRMA chapter award, chapters would submit the Excel award they submitted from their 2023 chapter goals.
    RECIPIENT AWARDS

    Recipients will receive the following:

    • A $1,000 Chapter award that can be used toward chapter initiatives such as meeting speaker/program/professional development costs
    • Article summarizing achievement in the NHRMA Association blog as well as other social media and with SHRM
    • Formal recognition at the NHRMA Conference
    • Attendance at the NHRMA conference for a chapter representative, including travel and accommodations to be used in the year of recognition (capped annually in the NHRMA budget)
    APPLICATION DEADLINE

    Submit electronic applications via the nomination form by June 30th.

    NOTIFICATION PROCESS

    Once an application is received, written notification will be sent to both the nominating party and to the nominee.  An appointed selection committee will review the applications and make a recommendation to the NHRMA Board.  The NHRMA Board will make the final decision on award recipients.  Following this decision, the nominating party and nominee will be notified of a decision by phone and email.

    SELECTION COMMITTEE

    The NHRMA Awards & Recognition Director (as Chair), President, Immediate Past President, Vice President, and SHRM Field Services Director, Pacific West Region, will review all applications and make a recommendation to the NHRMA Board, which will make the final decision.
