NHRMA Award for Distinguished Member

     

    PURPOSE

    To recognize a SHRM member in the NHRMA region for their significant contributions to the human resource profession, the community, their chapter, and/or NHRMA over a period of years.

    ELIGIBILITY FOR NOMINATION

    Nominees must meet the following criteria to be eligible for nomination:

    • Current member of both SHRM and a SHRM professional chapter within the NHRMA region
    • Minimum of 7 years as a SHRM member
    • Minimum of 3 years living or working in the NHRMA region
    • Current Certified Professional (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR) or has a terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D., DBA, J.D.)

    This award is intended to be a “HUMAN RESOURCES PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD” to individuals who have provided exceptional service to the profession over a period of years.

    AWARDS CRITERIA 

    To be considered for the award, the nominee must be eligible for nomination and show strong leadership and integrity within the HR profession and community over a period of at least 5-7 years. Examples of accomplishments that qualify an individual for consideration as a Distinguished Member include:

    • Founder of a new SHRM Professional Chapter in the NHRMA region
    • Stabilizing or re-energizing an existing SHRM professional chapter in the NHRMA region
    • Long-term involvement on the board of a SHRM professional chapter, a SHRM state council, or the NHRMA board
    • Long-term SHRM Student Chapter Advisor
    • Regular presenter at the national SHRM conference, the NHRMA conference, state conferences, and/or local SHRM chapter meetings
    • Recognition as a leader in the local HR community
    NOMINATION PROCUDURE 

    All nominations are to be made using the Distinguished Member Nomination Form. Prior to submitting a nomination, please review the eligibility and award criteria and make sure you have all the required documents saved in MS Word format for uploading. Information required in the nomination form:

    • Nominee information
      • Name, Address, Email and Phone number
      • Current certification/s and/or terminal degree/s
      • Current SHRM professional chapter
    • Nominator information
      • Name, Address, Email and Phone Number
      • Business Title
    • Nomination Statement (300-500 words) - Describe why the nominee is deserving of Distinguished Member status, referring directly to the eligibility and award criteria. 
    • Letters of Recommendation (attach up to 3)

    Some of the information to include in the nomination statement and/or the recommendations letters:

    • Dates of SHRM membership
    • SHRM/NHRMA Leadership History, including positions and years of service
    • Current Certifications (and dates if known)
    • Terminal Degree/s held and name of awarding institution
    RECIPIENT AWARDS

    The recipient will receive the following:

    • Formal recognition at the NHRMA Annual Conference
    • An engraved commemorative plaque
    • $100 donation to the SHRM Foundation in their name
    • An article recognizing their achievements on the NHRMA website and other social media, as well as with SHRM
    • Free conference registration to the NHRMA Annual Conference (to be used the year of or the year after receiving the award)
    • Travel and up to 3 nights accommodation to the conference (in the year of attendance)
    SUBMITTING NOMINATIONS

    Submit electronic applications via the Distinguished Member Nomination Form by June 15, 2026.
